14.2 Calculation of body weight on the
basis of body height
In the start menu, you can set the height of the patient under the
menu item New patient (see "4.7.3 Selecting a ventilation mode
for a new patient", page 69). The device calculates the matching
ventilation parameters based on the set height and the
corresponding ideal body weight (IBW).
The IBW value is calculated as follows:
•Child
(1)
(height 154 cm):
IBW = 2.05 x e
0.02 x height
Adult
(2)
(height > 154 cm):
IBW, male = 50 + 2.3 x [height/2.54 - 60]
IBW, female = 45 + 2.3 x [height/2.54 - 60]
With the aid of the IBW, the tidal volume can be calculated as
follows:
(KG = body weight)
Example Patient, male, height 185 cm
Setting for Vt/kg KG = 6 ml/kg
IBW = 50 + 2.3 x [185 cm/2.54 - 60] = 79.51 kg
80 kg
Vt = 80 kg x 6 ml/kg = 480 ml
