Fuel Pump Unit
1. General
For 6-cylinder to 8-cylinder engines, one fuel pump unit is installed at the driving end
on the fuel side.
For 9-cylinder engines, two fuel pump units are installed at the driving end. One fuel
pump unit on the exhaust side and one fuel pump unit on the fuel side.
The components that follow are built in, or attached to the housing of the fuel pump
unit.
1.1 Camshaft Connection
The screws (5, Fig. 1) attach the camshaft (4) to the gear wheel (8). The bearing
halves (3) and the thrust bearing ring halves (7) keep the camshaft in position.
The crankshaft gear wheel and the intermediate wheel move the camshaft (4). For
more data, see 4104−1 Drive Supply Unit.
1.2 Fuel Pumps
The number of fuel pumps installed on the fuel pump unit is related to the number of
cylinders in the engine.
For more data, see 5556−1 Fuel Pump.
1.3 Fuel Pump Actuator
Each fuel pump has an actuator (9). The actuators control all fuel pumps at the same
time.
For more data, see 5583−1 Fuel Pump Actuator.
