3.3 Reverse
1) Turn the rotary knob to 15% fuel injection quantity (see display).
2) Push the button START AHEAD or START ASTERN until the engine runs in the
applicable direction.
Note: On ships under way, this procedure can be some minutes, because the
propeller is dragged in the opposite sense of rotation.
3.4 Engine Stop
1) Use the rotary knob to decrease the engine speed / load.
2) Push the STOP button.
Note: The buttons and rotary knob only operate when the related WECS−9520
control panel is selected to be in control (see 4618−1 WECS−9520 manual
control panel). You can also use the ECR manual control panel for the
procedure above.
4. Engine Control System Checks
If parts of the pneumatic control system were disassembled, removed or replaced
during an overhaul, a general operational check must be made before
commissioning. The paragraphs that follow give instructions about the procedures.
The item numbers of the valves and the designations that follow relate to those in the
engine control diagram 4003−2 and control and auxiliary systems 4003−3.
CAUTION
Equipment Hazard: Leaks that are found during the engine
control system checks must be repaired.
4.1 Preparation
Note: For data about the item numbers (e.g. 2.10), see 4003−2, Control Diagram.
1) Open the indicator valves.
2) Close the shut-off valves on the starting air bottles. Use the handwheel 2.10 to
close the shut-off valve for starting air 2.03.
3) Use the venting valve 2.21 to remove air from the starting air supply pipe.
4) Use the venting valve 2.27 to remove air from the starting air main supply.
5) Release the air in the control air bottle 287HA.
6) Engage the turning gear.
7) Remove the roller lifting tools if installed.
8) Make sure that the servo oil service pump 4.88 is set to off (main switch).
