Thrust Bearing
1. General
The thrust bearing is installed at the driving end of the engine. The thrust bearing
flange (17, Fig. 2) transmits the force from the propeller through the thrust pads (5,
13) into the bedplate.
The arbor supports (6, Fig. 1) prevent circular movement of the thrust pads (5, 13,
see Fig. 2).
There are seven thrust pads (5, 13) on each side of the thrust bearing flange (17).
The thrust pads (5, 13) absorb the axial force from the crankshaft (12) and propeller.
The crankshaft gear wheel (11) moves the intermediate wheel (pump unit) (8, Fig. 2)
and the intermediate wheel (supply unit) (9).
