Fig 1. shows the relation between the residual BN and the total iron content of the PU
drain oil. This data is only applicable when fuel with a sulphur content between
0.5% m/m and 3.5% m/m and cylinder lubricating oil with a BN between 40 and 100 is
used. For data about cylinder lubricating oils with a base number less than 40, refer to
0750−1 Lubricating Oils.

The empirical data can be used for future operation with the same cylinder lubricating
oil and fuel with the same sulphur content (±0.125 %m/m). When you use your
empirical data, WinGD recommends that you do a PU oil sample. This makes sure
that the used feed rate is applicable. For more data, refer to Service Bulletin RT-161
Issue 2 Cylinder Lubrication.
CAUTION
Equipment Hazard: The WinGD PU Drain Oil Analysis Tool and its
recommendations are only applicable for cylinder lubricating oils
with a base number more than or equal to 40 (BN ≥ 40).
You can use the WinGD PU Drain Oil Analysis Tool to collect your data. You can see
examples of its analysis in Fig. 2 and Fig. 3.
For more data, speak to or send a message to WinGD.
