Forward Collision Mitigation
Forward collision mitigation includes forward
collision mitigation (FCM) and automatic
emergency braking (AEB) two active safety
assistance functions, which can prevent
vehicle collision or reduce the speed of vehicle
collision, to improve the safety of drivers and
passengers.
When there is a risk of forward collision, FCM
will warn the driver visually, audibly and
tactilely until the driver applies the brake
within a reasonable time or the risk of collision
is removed, otherwise the vehicle will assist in
braking.
FCM may enable short, rapid braking to deal
with dierent collision risks. For most drivers,
it is not a normal driving style and may feel
uncomfortable.
If the risk of collision increases further, AEB will
intervene in the brake, regardless of whether
the driver has applied the brake.
After FCM successfully avoids the collision, the
vehicle will remain stationary for a short time,
the driver should take proactive action as soon
as possible.
FCM is an auxiliary function, which can't
help drivers in all cases. At most, the impact
of frontal collision can be minimized by
reducing driving speed. Moreover, the system
is designed to start as late as possible to
avoid unnecessary intervention. Drivers or
passengers usually notice the function of
forward collision mitigation only when vehicles
are about to collide. Do not rely on forward
collision mitigation to replace the response
that drivers should make.
