SHIMMING (FOR USA AND CANADA)
Example:
If “R” is “+5”, then:
M = 1.0 – (+5)/100 mm
= 1.0 – 0.05 mm
= 0.95 mm (0.0374 in)
If “R” is “–3”, then:
M = 1.0 – (–3)/100 mm
= 1.0 + 0.03 mm
= 1.03 mm (0.0406 in)
2. Install:
● Needle bearing
● Oil seal
(onto the propeller shaft housing)
Refer to “Propeller shaft housing
assy. assembly”.
3. Set:
● Shimming gauge
(onto the reverse gear shim 1 and
ball bearing as shown)
NOTE:
If the original shim(s) is unavailable, start
with a 1.2 mm shim.
4. Measure:
● Specified measurement (M)
Out of specification → Adjust.
Shimming gauge:
YB-39799
5. Adjust:
● Shimming-gauge-to-reverse-gear-
shim(s) clearance
Remove or add shim(s).
Available shim thickness:
1.0, 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3 mm
