Overview of 40G Port Splitting
The 40G Quad Small Form-factor Pluggable (QSFP+) ports on some Thunder Series devices can be
configured to serve dual purposes. A 40G Ethernet port can be configured as one 40G port or four 10G
ports.
For example, the Thunder 6430 device can be configured to have a maximum of 32 10G ports with 16
SFP+ on-board ports and four QSFP ports (if you use a four SFP+ splitter cable for all QSFP ports).
The split 40G ports supports the following configuration:
Each port will have its own port number.
Each port will work as an individual port.
All ports will provide the same functionality as on-board 10G ports.
NOTE: If you enable this feature, do not link to a configuration profile that does
not have this feature enabled. If this feature is not enabled, do not link to
a configuration profile that has port splitting enabled.
If you must link to a profile and there is a mis-match in the port splitting
configuration, you should enable or disable port splitting as appropriate
so the configurations match, then reboot the device, before linking the
profiles.
