According to Directive 94/9/EC (ATEX):
When installing explosion-proof transmitters (electrical connection, grounding/equipotential
bonding, etc.), national regulations, DIN/VDE standards, explosion protection directives, and the
Ex test certificate of the device must be observed. The certified explosion-proof designation for
the transmitter is provided on the name plate.

2.2 Explosion protection type "Intrinsically safe EEx I"

• Only intrinsically safe devices may be installed in the transmitter signal circuit. The signal
circuit can be interrupted while the transmitter is in operation (e.g., clamping/unclamping
signal lines).
• The housing may be opened during operation.
• Transmitters with or without remote seals featuring explosion protection type "EEx i"
(intrinsically safe) may be set up directly at Zone 0, provided that the power is supplied via
an intrinsically safe electrical circuit with protection type EEx ia or EEx ib.
• Test circuit (terminals "TEST +/-"): With explosion protection type "intrinsically safe",
connections should only be established to passive, intrinsically safe circuits. The category,
