Network and drive connectivity configuration 37
Configuring DDCS drives (ACS800/DCS 800/ACSx000)
Single control unit
You do not need to do additional configuration to connect a single DDCS control unit.
NETA-21 automatically detects the connected drive.
Multiple control unit
For a multi-drive setup, ABB recommends to use a star network topology. It is also
mandatory to have a unique node ID for each drive.
Star network avoids monitoring data loss even if one of the drives shut down. To make
sure that the detected drives are kept connected, perform a power recycle of NETA-21
after all of the devices are connected.
Note: If you modify any of the drive node IDs (group 70 parameters), you need to perform
a power cycle for the individual drives.
For single drive with more than one control unit, ring topology can be used to save cost of
the branching unit. A ring connection requires unique DDCS node ID for each of the
control unit (group 70 parameters).
After connecting the multi-drive setup, perform the following
1. Make sure that NETA-21 identifies the connected drives automatically in the UI. Click
on Devices in Navigation panel.
2. If NETA-21 does not detect all of the drives automatically, refer to Installation
troubleshooting (optional) on page 57.
3. (optional) To change the NETA settings to Star Network (if drives are connected in a
star network topology), go to Settings Device interfaces DDCS and click
Settings.
