54 Configuring a cellular modem
Quick installation guide
WARNING! SIM card with public IP address should not be used with modems, Using SIM card with
public IP address can expose modem administration interface to any cloud server. Most of the SIM
cards provides NAT (Network Address Translation) feature which hides the modem's IP address from
the Internet.
WARNING! Make sure that you change the default password of the cellular modem. Using the default
password can cause increase in proneness and security vulnerability.
1. Set the power of the modem to ON.
Note: ABB recommends to use Ethernet or Cellular modems. It is not recommended
to use USB modems. USB modems might not function as expected.
2. Update the firmware of the modem according to the instructions of the manufacturer.
3. Configure the cellular modem for the SIM card (use a PIN code, APN etc.).
Some modems require special configurations to allow out-bound traffic.
4. Connect the antenna.
5. Insert a SIM card while the modem is not powered.
6. Set the modem power to ON, and test the connectivity by using a PC.
7. Configure NETA-21 to be accessible to the modem network, so that NETA-21 can
successfully send data to the digital services.
8. (optional) Configure the VPN option to access NETA-21 for maintenance.The VPN
connection to the drive is not a standard part of the service contract and must be
approved by the user.
Note: For legal reasons, ABB recommends to obtain email confirmation from the
customer on allowing VPN access to ABB gateway device NETA-21 webUI. NETA-21
web UI provides more control of the drive than with Ability cloud.
Configuring eWON Cosy 131 modem
You need to configure advanced settings in the eWON Cosy 131 modem to enable it to
send the data to cloud servers.
To configure, navigate to the advanced configuration options (under storage menu on
eWON Cosy firmware 14.x), search and modify the below option values:
• NatItf = 2 (Nat and TF on WAN)
• VPNRedirect = 0 (Allow traffic outside the VPN tunnel)
• FwrdToWAN = 1 (Forward LAN traffic to WAN)
