DEFAULT CHARACTER FONT
The
default
character
font
loaded by
the
BIOS
into
the
System RAM (for UK use) is
illustrated
on
the
following
page.
This
is
the
ASCII
character
set, SINTL
01
which
is
allocated 8 Kbytes of
System
memory
from
address
location
0800H
to
27FFH. Each of
the
256 characters is stored
in
an
area of
memory
defined as a
font
cell,
which
consists of 32
contiguous bytes
in
memory,
organised as 16
consecu
ti
ve
16-bit words. For
further
details of
the
concept of
the
font
cell
and
details of
the
method
of displaying characters
on
the
screen, refer
to
the
Screen
Driver
and
CRT
Control
chapters.
Note:
The
Screen
Driver
interprets
the
first
32
ASCII codes
of
the
character
set
(OOH
to
IFHl, as
control
codes,
unless
the
escape
sequence
ESC 8 is
sent
to
the
driver.
