Basic Troubleshooting for Fire TV
Try these common solutions to resolve issues like a blank screen, app errors and problems with your audio
or display.
Try Restarting Your Device First
Restarting your device can resolve many issuesjust disconnect the power cord (from the back of the
device or from the power outlet) and then plug it back in.
You can also use your remote to restart your device. Press and hold the Select and Play/Pause
buttons at the same time, for about 5 seconds. You can also open Settings > System > Restart from the
main menu.
If restarting your device doesn't resolve the issue, check out the sections below for additional help:
Blank Screen?
If you're seeing a blank or black screen, here are some things to try:
Make sure your TV is on and set to the HDMI input channel that your Fire TV is connected to.
Unplug and reconnect the HDMI cable connecting your Fire TV device to your TV. You may need to try
a different HDMI cable.
Temporarily unplug other devices connected to your TV's HDMI ports.
Try changing your TV to a different resolution (e.g. 1080p or 720p). Press the Up and Rewind buttons
on your Amazon Fire TV remote at the same time for 5 seconds. The system then cycles through
available output resolutions, pausing at each resolution for 10 seconds. If you see the correct
resolution, select Use Current Resolution.
If your device is connected to an AV receiver, make sure the receiver is on.
Can't Purchase Content?
If you're having trouble purchasing content from Amazon (Amazon Video titles, apps and games from
Appstore, etc.), here are some things to try:
Make sure your device is connected to the Internet. An Internet connection is required to buy, stream
and sync your content. To check your connection, select Settings > System > Network from the Fire
TV menu.
Confirm that your 1-Click payment method is set up correctly. To learn more, go to Change Your 1-
Click Settings.
Issues with a Specific App?
If you're having trouble downloading, installing or using a third-party app, here are some things to try:
From the Home screen, select Settings > Applications > Manage All Installed Applications.
Select the application you're having trouble with. You can:
Clear the cache and/or data, which can resolve many intermittent performance issues. Clearing data
doesn't delete the app itself but may delete saved information (like account details or game scores).
