How to Solve Issues with a Software Update
If you're having trouble with a Fire TV software update, here are some solutions that may help.
Try Restarting Your Device First
Restarting your device can resolve many issues—just disconnect the power cord (from the back of the
device or from the power outlet) and then plug it back in.
You can also use your remote to restart your device. Press and hold the Select and Play/Pause buttons at
the same time, for about five seconds. You can also open Settings > System > Restart from the Fire TV
menu.
If restarting your device doesn't resolve the issue, check out the sections below for additional help:
Your Fire TV is frozen on the update screen
Restart your device by unplugging the power cord for
three seconds and then plugging it back in.
An error message says the software update was not
successful
Make sure your Fire TV is connected to the Internet.
For Amazon Fire TV (1st Generation), if the update
doesn't work while your device is connected to Wi-Fi,
try connecting with an Ethernet cable. Keep the
Ethernet cable plugged in while the update
downloads in the background.
If you continue to have trouble, restart your Amazon
Fire TV device by unplugging the power cord for
three seconds and then plugging it back in.
There is a software update available, but your Fire TV
device did not update automatically
Make sure your Fire TV is connected to the Internet.
Updates download and install automatically when
your device is connected to the Internet.
Manually check for a software update by selecting
Settings > System > About > Check for System
Update from the Fire TV menu. If an update is
available, it will automatically start downloading.
Once the download is complete, select Install
Update to complete the installation.
