About VoiceView for Fire TV Devices
VoiceView is a screen reader for Fire TV devices. It speaks on-screen text out loud as you navigate menu
options and settings on your Fire TV.
To use VoiceView on your Fire TV, you may first need to update your device software to the latest version.
To do this, select Settings > System > About > Check for System Update from the Fire TV menu.
Turn on VoiceView
You can turn VoiceView on or off by holding down the Back and Menu buttons on your Fire TV
remote at the same time for two seconds. On your remote, Back and Menu are the left and right buttons
located on the top row of three small buttons.
You'll hear "VoiceView Ready" when the feature is enabled and ready to use. When you turn the feature
off, you'll hear "VoiceView Exiting".
VoiceView is currently available in US English, UK English and German.
The first time you turn on VoiceView, a tutorial automatically opens, with tips on how to use the feature and
locate buttons on your Fire TV remote.
The first screen of the tutorial will ask you to confirm that you intended to turn on VoiceView. Press the
Play/Pause button on your remote to confirm. You can also skip the tutorial by pressing the Skip/Fast-
Forward button. On your remote, Play/Pause is the middle button located on the bottom row of three
small buttons and Skip/Fast-Forward is the right button.
VoiceView Navigation
Pressing the Home button on your remote opens the Fire TV Home screen. On your remote, Home is
the middle button located on the top row of three small buttons.
Content categories (e.g. Movies, TV Shows, Your Videos, Apps, Settings and more) are in the menu on the
left side and the content or options available within each category display to the right. On your remote, the
large round ring toward the top is the directional keypad, which you can use to navigate the Home screen
and category menus by moving Left, Right, Up and Down.
VoiceView uses an enhanced navigation mode by default. This lets you use the directional keypad to
highlight and hear all available text fields on-screen. The Left and Right buttons on the keypad move
between selectable controls and navigation options, while the Up and Down buttons highlight areas of the
screen with additional details—like customer ratings, plot or cast information for videos and more.
VoiceView also has a standard mode that only highlights selectable navigation options. You can switch
between enhanced and standard mode by pressing and holding the Menu button. On your remote,
Menu is the right button located on the top row of three small buttons.
At this time, VoiceView doesn't work with some navigation menus and features on your Fire TV, including
Music, X-ray, and the ad-banner on the Home screen. The feature also doesn't work within third-party apps
and games you've downloaded to your Fire TV.
