Transferring Patient from a Supine Position
The technique described here can be used for transferring patients regardless of where they may be
laying (on the bed or on the floor of the exercise area).
Before you start, make sure the bed is in correct working height.
Move the lift away from the patient.
Remove the sling from behind the patient.
Roll the patient, in caregiver’s direction, onto their side.
Fold the sling in half and place on the bed or on the floor
land marking it, along the back of the patient so that the
base of his/her spine is aligned with the base of the sling,
making sure the sling extends to the top of the patient's
head.
Roll the patient back onto the sling and then slightly further
in the opposite direction, so that the folded part of the sling
can be unfolded.
If possible, slightly raise the head of the bed.
Approach the patient with the lift, and ensure that:
The spreader bar is in reclined position.
The spreader bar is close enough to be able to
connect the shoulder strap clips of the sling to the
frame.
WARNING: Make sure that the bed safety side is
installed to prevent the patient from falling.
