HOLD DOWN CABLE REPLACEMENT (Broken Cable) – cont’d
4)
The broken portion of the cable may
be wedged under the rewind wheel,
maintaining pressure on the rewind
spring. Lock the rewind wheel in its
present position with vice-grips or
other suitable clamping device.
See Figure 15. Carefully remove the
broken portion of cable from the
rewind wheel. Carefully release the
vice-grips and allow the rewind spring
to rotate the rewind wheel to a static
position with no tension remaining on
the rewind spring.

5) Remove the cable clamp at the float spring and remove the broken portion of the
cable.
6) Remove the rewind spring from the rewind wheel hub anchor pin.
7) Rotate the rewind wheel to position the cable attaching hole to the top. Insert new
hold down cable through the attaching hole and feed all cable through until the
crimped-on cable end is firmly against the wheel hub.
8) Insert the loose end of the cable down through the appropriate space at the back of
the box under the rewind wheel and out through the cable opening in the front of the
box. Continue to feed all cable through and out the front of the box.
9) The next step is to tension the rewind spring. To accomplish this, the cable will be
used to rotate the rewind wheel. Maintaining slight tensionon the cable, rotate the
rewind wheel counterclockwise, viewed from the release handle side, six (6) full
turns by hand. This will place six full wraps of cable on the cable drum. Slide the
rewind spring end back onto the rewind wheel hub anchor pin. Prepare the vice-
grip clamp and place close at hand.
