Mechanical Dock Leveler – M and FMC Group 08, Section 10, Page 1
Issue Date: 10/01/01, Rev. 0 (Part #038-550E)
CAM ROLLER REPLACEMENT
This procedure requires the dock leveler
deck to be maintained in the fully raised
position without the aid of the main lift
springs or lifting arm. Block as described
below or otherwise assure the deck will not
lower before attempting repairs.
1) Raise the dock leveler fully and
position maintenance strut and traffic
barriers as required for safety. Place a
safety stand between the deck
assembly and the lower frame to
assure the deck can not lower.
2) Raise hold down release chain fully
and clamp in released position with
vice-grips or other suitable clamping
device. The hold down system must
be fully released throughout the cam
roller replacement procedure. See
Figure 45.
3) The deck must now be raised
approximately 2" to lift the cam roller
off the cam. Figure 45 illustrates the
Blue Giant recommended method of
raising the deck.
Place an appropriate length bottle jack
on top of the lower frame, front cross
beam, as close to the centerline of the
dock as possible. Extend jack to make
contact with the underside of the deck
against the headboard. Carefully
inspect the positioning of the jack and
when satisfied that everything is
secure, raise the deck until the roller is
approximately 2" above the cam.
Extend and position the safety stand.
Slowly lower the deck until its full
weight is supported by the safety
stand and the roller is not in contact
with the cam.
