LONGER LIP REQUIREMENT – Move Dock Leveler Forward
Figure 93
Changes made to a dock area, such as the addition of Door Seals or Shelters
around a shipping door, may necessitate preventing vehicles form backing fully into
their normal position at the dock leveler. This requires the dock bumpers to be
moved outward to stop and position the vehicle and will result in the dock leveler lip
not making adequate penetration onto the vehicle load bed. To correct this situation,
moving the dock leveler outward is a common and effective modification when
properly executed. Each model and capacity of dock leveler and the specific
distance the unit will be moved forward, dictates the use of various materials and
components to efficiently accomplish this modification. A special 'Kit' of material and
components is available from the factory. The following information must be
supplied to the factory when ordering.
(1) Dock Leveler Model
(2) Dock Leveler Capacity
(3) Dock Leveler Serial Number
(4) Dock Bumper Type
(5) Dock Bumper Size
(6) Distance Dock Leveler and Bumpers are to be moved forward
(7) Measured distance between driveway surface and underside of front frame
cross-member of dock leveler
Following are general instructions for moving a typical dock leveler forward 4" in its
pit. This is a nominal dimension used only as an example. See Figure 93.
