Reassembling Notes
• If you replace the ink absorber box (without replacing the main PCB), you need to reset the
purge counter in the EEPROM to zero according to the procedure below.
MFC640CW/820CW
1) Press the Menu/Set (Menu) and Black Start keys. Next press the
key four times to make
the machine enter the maintenance mode.
The "
" appears on the LCD.
TIP: FAX models equipped with numerical keypads can enter the maintenance mode in the
same way as conventional models; that is, by pressing the Menu/Set (Menu), *, 2, 8, 6 and 4
keys in this sequence.
2) Press the 8 and 0 keys in this order to display the equipment's log. (Function code 80
described in Chapter 8, Section 8.4.21.)
3) Press the Black Start key several times until the purge count appears on the LCD.
4) Press the 2, 7, 8 and 3 keys to reset the purge count to zero.
5) Press the 9 key twice to return to the standby state.
DCP340CW
1) Press the Menu and Mono Start keys. Next press the
key four times to make the machine
enter the maintenance mode.

" appears on the LCD.
2) Display the equipment's log (with Function code 80) by using the and Set keys as follows:
Press the
key several times to display 8 on the LCD and press the Set key. Again press the
key several times to display 0 and press the Set key.
3) Press the Mono Start key several times to display the purge count on the LCD.
4) Reset the purge count to zero by using the
and Set keys as follows:
Press the
key several times to display 2 on the LCD and then press the Set key. In the same
way, enter 7, 8, and 3.
5) Exit from the maintenance mode by using the
and Set keys as follows:
Press the
key several times to display 9 on the LCD and then press the Set key. Again
press the
key several times to display 9 and press the Set key.
TIP: This machine counts all purge operations performed since produced in order to prevent the
ink absorber box from overflowing with drained ink. An initial purge, for example, advances the
counter by 187 + 420 = 607. When the counter approaches 6400
, "MACHINE ERROR 46"
appears, and further purge operations are prohibited. Replace the ink absorber box and reset the
purge counter.
