2.4 Preparing your PC for Installation of PULSE

Before installing the PULSE software, ensure that Windows

2000, Windows

XP or Win-

dows Vista

is installed on your PC. Usually, a PULSE PC comes with Windows

XP pre-

installed.

1) Connect the PC to your network as described above, switch on the PC and get it up and

running (no password is required for PCs pre-installed by Brüel & Kjær).

2) When asked for network, choose ‘wired for network’.

3) Give the PC a name of 16 characters or less. The factory default is ‘PORTPULSE’.

4) Choose TCP/IP as the protocol.

5) Read through section 2.3.1 and discuss network connection options with your network

administrator, as these configurations will be dependent on the type of network connection

you require.

6) Enter an IP address and subnet mask for the PC.

For a point-to-point setup, choose IP address 10.10.10.50 and subnet mask 255.0.0.0.

Your system will reboot after this.

7) Install the Microsoft

Office software.

You are now ready to install the PULSE software.

2.5 Pre-installed Systems

If you have purchased a new PULSE system including PC from Brüel & Kjær, the software

and license will already be installed. All you need to do is:

1) Set PULSE Knowledge Library up as required – see section 2.6.3.

2) Attach the USB key to the PC and start system configuration. Select Start, Programs,

PULSE, PULSE Front-end Setup. A detailed system configuration guide is found in

section 2.7.2.

After system configuration, you can start PULSE by selecting from the options in the Start,

Programs, PULSE group.

2.6 PULSE Software Installation

If your software is not pre-installed, or if you are upgrading from an earlier version of

PULSE, you will need to follow the instructions given in the rest of this Chapter.

2.6.1 Administrator Privileges

To install PULSE, you must be logged onto Windows

with administrator privileges. To run

PULSE, you must at least be a member of the USERS group.
