Robot driving modes
There are several driving modes for each robot: autonomous, remote (drive assist on/off), and manual
mode. The table below explains how each driving mode works.
Driving mode Definition
Autonomous
mode [45]
In autonomous mode, the robot can drive to a set destination and perform movements between targeted
locations without remote controls or teleoperation input to maneuver it.
Remote mode [44]
(with or without
Drive Assist)
The operator is driving using the joystick in OTTO App with full safety systems. Autonomous controls are
enabled, allowing teleoperated commands.
With Drive Assist enabled, the joystick will appear green. The robot will continue to obey all traffic rules and
its autonomy fields. This means that the robot will not drive into a safety stop, including on cached obstacles
(i.e. obstacles that have been tracked into sensor blind spots).
With Drive Assist disabled, the joystick will appear grey. The robot is able to disobey traffic rules and drive
into violations of its autonomy fields.
Manual mode The operator moves the robot directly using a manual control pendant, an integrated control (for example,
the tiller on the OTTO Lifter), or bypassing the robot's drive wheels, and pushing the robot. These motions
bypass the robot's safety system and may come with significant safety risk.
This table describes the operational differences in mode for each robot:

CAUTION
IMPACT HAZARD! Always maintain a safe distance from an AMR in operation. An
AMR being operated in manual mode should only be operated by personnel who
have been trained and authorized according to the standards of the facility in which
the AMR is in use. Be aware of the emergency stop button locations. For button
location information, refer to the components overview section of the AMR operation
and maintenance manual.
IMPORTANT
Confirm that the localization of the AMR on the map is correct before engaging
Autonomous Mode. Failure to do so could result in the AMR entering Exclusion Zones or
ignoring map features, potentially resulting in damaging the AMR and/or property.
1. Launch OTTO App for the applicable AMR.
2. Ensure that no other users are attempting to control the robot.
3. Select either Drive or Facility from the Main Menu to display the driving controls.
4.
5. Select Drive Mode .
6. Select Settings .
