Theregulatorislocatedbeneaththefueltankontheleft
sideofthemotorcycle.Youwillneedtoremovetheseatand
fueltanktogainaccesstotheregulator;theprocedurefor
removingthesecomponentsisdescribedinotherpartsof
thisManual.Ifyouneedaregulator,please
callusat909
4450900.
Ifthebatteryvoltageisbelow13.8voltswhentheengineis
revved,moreanalysisisrequired.
Thenextstepistomeasuretheoutputofthecharging
system.CheckforchargingsystemACvoltageand
resistance.Findthechargingcircuitharness,andwith
the
enginerunning,measuretheACvoltagebetweenallthree
leads.Atidle,itshouldbe12VDC.Withtheengineat
maximumrpm,itshouldbe60VDC.
Shuttheengineoff,disconnecttheharnessconnectorshown
above,andmeasuretheresistancebetweenallthreeleads
(itshould
beapproximately0.5ohms;anythingbetween0.3
ohmsand0.6ohmsisacceptable).Iftheresistanceis
outsidetherangementionedabovethestatorshouldbe
replaced.
Ifthechargingsystemfromtheenginecrankshaft(i.e.,atthe
yellowleadsdiscussedabove)hasappropriateoutputand
resistance,weshouldnextcheck
theoutputfromthe
regulator. Findtheconnectorplugasshowninthephoto
andcheckthevoltageoutputwhentheengineisrunning.If
itisbelow13.8VDCorabove14.5VDCwhenyoublipthe
throttle,theregulatorisdefectiveanditmustbereplaced.
Ifthe
voltageiswithintheacceptablerange(i.e.,between13.8and14.5VDC)buttheoutputatthe
batteryterminals(withtheenginerunning)isoutsidethisrange,theproblemliesinthecircuit
betweentheconnectorplugandthebattery.Inthissituation,youshouldcheckforopencircuits,
improper
connections,orshortstogroundandcorrecttheanomalouscondition.
