You can minimize the risk of interference by using coaxial or twisted-pair cables with
grounding connectors at each end and junction point. You should not exceed the max-
imum distances specified under
Recommended maximum distance limitations
on Page
30.
If any of your cables pass between buildings or on the outside of buildings, you should
give special consideration to the possibility of lightning strikes. The electromagnetic
pulse carried by lightning and similar high-energy phenomena can induce enough
energy in cables to destroy PortServer II’s circuitry. If your installation site is subject
to lightning strikes, you may want to consider lightning suppression and shielding.
