When the air choke is co mplet ely closed, handle 4 is in the front
end position (handle in the upp · er position) . Th e choke shou ld be

On e of the main .causes fo.r premature wea r of the cylm d ers, pl-
stons, piston rings and of the other fri ction prarts of the e ngine is
du st an d sand that get inside the engi ne t hrough the ca rburett o rs.
The se rvice life of the eng i ne much d·epen ds on the good condi-
tion of the air cleaner.
Air is
cleaned in the follow ing manner: whe n p assing under the
c.i r clea ner cover, air is flung by the deflector ( pr ovided on the co-
ver) o nto the o il bath su rface , vhen, sud denly oha nging i rt.s direction,
is f, ed into the air clea ner throat filled with a cappon stuffing.
H eav i· er part icles of dust, su·cked in by the air, hit the oil surfa .ce
and
se ttle down to the bo ttom of the oi:J b at h. Th e finer particles,
car ri red a1 way by the a ir flow, are retained in the throat containing
oi l- soake d stuffing pa cks. From the throat of the air cl eaner , the air
is supp Jire d through the air pa ssages to the car bure ttors.
Provided inside the air filter body is a disk which is used as an
oil damper.
Care of Fuel System
1 During ' daily inspection, ma ke sure that the tank is filled with
fue·l a nd the p etro l lin es a -r e properly connected; also check the fuel
supply to the carburettors a nd the operation of tthe car burettor
throttle control dr ive.
When operating the mo tor cyc le, .check the presence of oil in th e
oil
bath of the air filter. 1 11: is recommended that the air filter be wa -
shed a nd the oil cha ng ed at the fol l owing intervals: und er very du-
sty co nd iti ons , the air filt er shoul.d be was hed, without dismantling,
and the oil c hang ed after ev. ery 500 km run; u nder norm al condi-
tions, t he sam e shou ld be done every 1000 km.
When was hing the air f ilter it is reco mmended to clean the gear
box casi ng filler.
Was h the filter in a bath filled with kerosene or sweet petrol. For
'thi s purpose imnnerse the fi l te r in the bath, rinse the filter a nd then
sharply shake it up,
Note: The oil used for the filling of the air filter should be the sa me as f or
the pri ming of the en gi ne (the filt er m ay be also filled with the used oil of the
same grade, provided this oil h as been pre liminarily filtered).
After ev ery 2500 km r un , it is advisab le to remove the sl udg e
from
the petro l cock settler; rinse and clean the fuel filters.
· .If the fuel supply is insufficient, the e ngine power drops sh ar pl y,
flashes appea r in the carb ur · ettor , and the e ngin e speed does no t c or -
respo nd to the gi ve n position of the t hr ottle con trol grip . In thi s ca -
se, first of
ai"I ch ec k that the vent holes in the plug of the fuel tank
2re n ot clogged. Then, on turning off the ·petrOl! cock, unscrew the
settler, clean and was h o ut the la tt er toget her with the fi l ter con-
