Seruicing the Contact Breaker
When
operating
the
motorcycle,
it
is
necessa
ry to:
l.
Check
whether
the
contacts
are
firmly
secured.
2.
Make
sure
that
the
friction
parts
aTe
clean
and
properly
lubri
-
<:a
ted.
3.
Every
1000 km, check
th
e
contacts
for good
condi
tion a
nd
ad
-
just
the
clearances,
if
necessary
.
When
cl
eaning
the
contacts,
remove
a
pimple
on
one
of
them.
It
is
not
advisable
to
completely
eliminate
.a
!C
r
ate
r (lfecess)
on
the
other
contact.
The
contacts
should
be
gro-
und
wit
h a needle file or a piece of 1
mm
thin
abr
asive
disk, or a
fine-gra
i
ne
d
sa
nd p
aper

Following

clean
an

wash
the
contacts
(using
a
clean
petrol).
!Lubricate
the
breaker
lever
axle
with
a drop of
machine
oil.
Three
or
four

ro
ps
of
the

rp
e oil will suffice to
lubricate
the
felt.

Ope

the
Ignition
Sys
tem
When
the
ignition
is
switched
on,
the
circuit
of.
the
ig
n
ition
coil
primary
wi
nding
bec-o.mes
energized
and
at
the
same
time
the
cir-
cuit
of
the
battery
charge
control
lamp
closes
(the
lamp
lights
up).
When
the
contact
breaker
points
are
opened, a
high-tensio
n cur-
re
nt (10 000
to
15 000 V)
necessary
to
ignite
the fuel
mixture
is
ge-
nerated
in
the
secondary
winding.
The
sparks
are
simultaneously
prod
u
ced
b
etw
een
the
electrodes
of
the
plugs
of
the
left-
and
righ
't
-
hand
cylinders:
one of the
sparks
is
produced
when
the
compr
ession
stroke
comes
to
an
end
in
one
of
the
cy
lin
ders,
the
other
spark
b
eing
generated
du
ring
exhaust
stroke.
As
soon
as
the
engi
ne
crankshaft
attains
a
certain
speed,
the
re
l
ay
contacts
close
and
the
p
ower
supp-
ly for
the
primary
winding
1s
switched
over
from
the
battery
to
the
generato
r.
