Repairs
The
damaged
spot
on
the
tube
is
easily
detected by
the
noise
of
leaki
ng
air
.
If
a
puncture
is
too
sma
ll,
immerse
the
tube
inrt
o
wat~
r
and
l
ocate
the
puncture
by
watching
air
bu
bbles
escaping
from
the
wate
r.
Ciean
off the
damaged
spot,
using
a file or an
emery
cloth,
and
wash
it
wit
h a cl
ean
petrol
to
remove
1the
dust.
If
special
patches
are
not
availabl
·
e,
use
a
part
or
a
piece
of
another
tyre
t
ube
,of a
size
so
mewhat
larger
tha
n a
patch
~o
be
cut
out.
Clean
this
piece of ty-
re
1
tu
'be
and
wash
it
wit
h cle
an
petr·ol.
Coat
the
damaged
spot
and
thus
tr
eated
piece of
tube
(to
be
used
as
a
patch)
wit
h
rubber
ce-
ment,
ensuring
that
the
rubber
cement-coated
area
on
the
tube
ove:--
r
eaches
the
ed
ge
s
of
a
patch
to
be m
ade
by
10
to 1·5 mm. After
10
to
15 min,
apply
another
l
ayer
of rubber
cement
and
wai
t
un
til
it
dries
out
well,
the
n cut out a
patch
to a required size,
apply
it
to
the
da-
maged
spot
on the tub
e.
Roll on the
patch
(to
remove
the
air),
star-
ting
from
centre
a
nd
working
towards
the
edges.
If
the
tyre
repair
kit
contai
ns
special
patches
oo
ated
with
a l
ayer
of
rubber
ce
m
ent
and
special
prDtective cloth,
these
must
be
used
aft
er
first
removing
the
l
ayer
of protective cloth.
Such
a
patch
does
not need to
be
coa
ted
wit
h rubb
er
cement,
but
it
mu
st
be
refreshed
with
petrol. '
The
faulty
slide
va
l
ve
must
be
replaced.
If
the air
leaks
between
the
va
l
ve
an
d tub'e, ti
gt
ht
en up the nut secu
ring
the
valve,
by
usi
ng
two
wre
nches.
Mounting
the Tyres
To
mount
the
tyres, proceed
as
f,ollows:
m
ake
sure
that
the
out
er
casing
is free 10f forei,
gn
matter
that
might
ca
u
se
damage
to
the
tube,
and,
using
a p
ape
r
packet
with
tal-
cum,
evenly
pOIWder
the
inner
space
of
the
c
asing
;
if
the
rim
b
and
was
re
moved
during
dismantling,
fit it ·
back
on
the
rim,
ens
uring
that
the
'band
hole
is
matched
wit
h
the
rim hole
(the
rim
band
must
completely ·
cover
all
the
ni
pple
h
eads)
;
on
pl
ac
ing
a
porhon
of
the
tyre
bead
in
the rim
recess,
fit it on
the
rim
by u
sing
tyre
irons,
and
shift the tyre
be
ad
towa
.

give
the
nut
2-3
turns

a
rds
and
place

that
the
tube
is
not
crease
d;
before fit
ting
the
other
tyre
bead,
depr
ess
the
valve
to
the
full ex-
t
ent
so
that
the
ty
re b
ead
can
enter
the
rim
recess
at
th
is place;
raise
the
other
ty
re
bead
at
the
side
opp,osite
the
valve
an
d ho
ld
the
casi
ng
in
this
position
with
both
feet;
fit the
ty
re
bead
,on
the
rim
by
hand,
.gradually
moving
all
the
way
around
the
casin
g circumference;
