Setting fresh gas flow
1 Press »L/min« menu key.
The key field appears dark against a light background.
● Set and confirm fresh gas flow with the dial knob.
Setting 0 L/min (no fresh gas flow) is only available
MAN/ SPONT. When changing to CMV or PCV the
fresh gas flow is automatically increased to the mini-
mum setting of 0.5 L/min.
The default settings in effect whenever Julian is
switched on can also be modified; see "Setting
Default Values" on page 92.
Julian is equipped with an electronic O2 minimum
dosing system to avoid hypoxic gas mixtures. For
fresh gas flow settings below 1 L/min, the O2
concentration is automatically increased to a value
corresponding to an O2 flow of 250 mL/min. If this
control system becomes activated, the O2 value is
highlighted in addition to the active menu key »L/min«.
Julian is able to detect fresh gas deficiency . An opti-
cal system monitors the end-expiratory position of the
bellows. If the bellows is not filled sufficiently during
expiration, the alarm 'FRESH GAS? !' appears.
In this case the fresh gas flow should be increased
to an adequate value.
