Whilst pushing down, confirm the two sliding locks move to their locked position viewed
through the two keyholes as shown.
Tighten (nip up) the screw using a suitable coin until it bottoms in the recess and a
noticeable increase in turning force is felt (do not over tighten or damage will occur).
B.3.4 Removing the Battery Pack
Release the screw.
Insert and press the two pronged key (supplied with the breathing apparatus) into the two
keyholes.
Remove the battery pack.
B.3.5 Charging the Battery Pack
An in-cab charger and a 4-way charger are available for battery charging (contact Dräger for details and supply). Both chargers
deliver a fast charge when the battery pack is discharged, and automatically switch to a maintenance charge when the battery
pack is fully charged. The maintenance charge charges the battery at a rate that keeps the battery topped-up but never over
charges.
B.3.6 In-Cab Charger
Ensure that the breathing apparatus is securely stored, and switch off the Bodyguard
®
system.
Connect the clip connector of the charger to the socket on the Merlin
®
Modem.
The battery LED and the Bodyguard
®
user interface indicate the charge status as shown
below.
CAUTION
The battery screw is captive. Do not attempt to remove the screw fully, or damage to
the battery casing may occur.
WARNING
The chargers are not approved to intrinsic safety standards. Do not attempt to charge the battery pack underground or in
an area designated as, or subject to, an explosion hazard.
CAUTION
Vent pressure and switch off the Bodyguard
®
system for charging. If the Bodyguard
®
system is switched on it will draw
more current than the maintenance charge supplies, and will discharge the battery even when it remains on charge. This
will eventually result in a solid orange LED on the battery pack.
NOTICE
The temperature of the battery is measured by an internal thermistor. To protect the battery, the charging rate will reduce
if the temperature is below 10 °C or above 45 °C. A fully discharged battery takes approximately 2 hours to charge at the
recommended ambient temperature (15 °C to 25 °C).
Batteries can remain connected to the chargers without damage when the charging procedure is complete. However,
disconnecting from the charger is recommended if the battery is not used for long periods.
