NOTE 1 You can configure relays, signal inputs, and the serial port baud rate through the front
panel menus.
NOTE 2 In a UPS connected to utility power, X-Slot cards remain powered on even if the input
breaker is off.

To establish communication between the UPS and a computer, connect your computer to the UPS
communication port using the supplied communication cable.
When the communication cable is installed, power management software can exchange data with the UPS.
The software polls the UPS for detailed information on the status of the power environment. If a power
emergency occurs, the software initiates the saving of all data and an orderly shutdown of the equipment.
Figure 76 identifies the cable pins and describes the pin functions. See for the communication port location.

X-Slot cards allow the UPS to communicate in a variety of networking environments and with different types of
devices. The BladeUPS has two available communication bays for any X-Slot card, including:
Relay Interface Card - has isolated dry contact (Form-C) relay outputs for UPS status: Utility failure, Low
battery, UPS alarm/OK, or On bypass.
Modbus Card - allows you to continuously and reliably monitor the UPSs in your Building Management
System (BMS).
Industrial Relay Card (IRC) - is used to indicate the operating status of the UPS system using the
customer’s monitoring equipment. The IRC uses four isolated normally-open or normally-closed dry relay
contacts to indicate the UPS status. You can monitor Normal, Bypass, Battery, and Alarm mode.
Power Xpert UPS Card (PXGX UPS) - has SNMP and HTTP capabilities as well as monitoring through a
Web browser interface; connects to a twisted-pair Ethernet (10/100BaseT) network. It is compatible with
Eaton IPM/IPP software, Power Xpert monitoring software, and also provides ModBus TCP connectivity to
allow setup of UPS shutdown schedules, as well as UPS test and control. In addition, you can attach an
Environmental Monitoring Probe to obtain humidity, temperature, smoke alarm, and security information.
See Figure 76 for the location of the two X-Slot communication bays.
