3.5. Compactors
There are three different compactors: PET , can, and can/ PET . The compactors are run by a 208-240 V
motor. Each compactor has a proximity sensor that monitors the speed of the rollers, allowing the
RVM controller to calculate whether there is a sorter jam
3.5.1. PET Compactor
The AC motor turns three shafts: one for the paddle that pulls the containers into the compaction
chamber, and two for the rollers that flatten the bottles. The two rollers have small “pin” extrusions
on them. These pins staple the bottles flat. Figure 3-11 shows the PET Compactor.
