Functional Description 23
3.3.3 Power-Saving Feature
Energy consumption must be as low as possible when used in the vehicle
because the measuring equipment is powered by a battery. This is why all
modules of the ES51x line at the “HOST” interface are equipped with a link
signal detector for an automatic power-saving feature.
The ES511.1 and ES51x modules connected to it automatically switch to
“Standby” if no Ethernet link signals are received for a particular length of time
or the host computer is powered off or disconnected. As soon as Ethernet link
signals are received or the host computer is active once more, the system auto-
matically switches to “On”.
3.4 CAN Interface ("CAN 1", "CAN 2")
The ES511.1 has two CAN interfaces. One each of the CAN interfaces is routed
to the two 9-pin "CAN 1" and "CAN 2" connectors (DSUB socket) on the back
panel.
"CAN 1" and "CAN 2" are complete independent CAN channels with sepa-
rated connections and CAN controllers. The CAN interfaces produce a simple
and direct connection between the ES511.1 and the CAN network.
The interfaces are galvanically isolated from each other and from the other
interfaces of the ES511.1.
3.4.1 Operating Modes
The CAN interfaces of the ES511.1 can be operated in High-Speed CAN link
(ISO 11898-2) mode.
Note
The automatic powering-on of the ES511.1 via the Ethernet wake-up is only
possible at the upstream port (“HOST”).
Note
The Ethernet adapter of the connected PC has to be configured accordingly
for it to be able to send link pulses.
Note
The interfaces "CAN 1" and "CAN 2" can be configured and used simulta-
neously and independently of one another.
