Cause: Device driver for network card not in operation
It is possible that the device driver of a network card is not running. In this case
you will have to deactivate and then reactivate the network card.
To deactivate and reactivate the network card:
• To deactivate the network card first select in
the Windows start menu the following item:
– Windows XP:
Control Panel → Network Connec-
tions
– Windows Vista:
Control Panel → Network and Inter-
net → Network and Sharing Center
• Right click on the used network adapter and
select Disable in the context menu.
• In order to reactivate the network adapter
right click on it again and select Enable.
Cause: Laptop power management deactivates the network card
The power management of a laptop computer can deactivate the network
card. Therefore you should turn off power monitoring on the laptop.
To switch off power monitoring on the laptop:
• From the Windows Start Menu, select
– Windows XP:
Control Panel → System.
Then select the Hardware tab and click
on Device Manager.
– Windows Vista:
Control Panel → System and
Maintenance → Device Manager.
• In the Device Manager open the tree structure
of the entry Network Adapters.
• Right click on the used network adapter and
select Properties in the context menu.
• Select the Power Management tab and
deactivate the Allow the computer to turn
off this device to save power option.
