5.4.2 Filling quantity5.4 Filling the gear unit with operating fluid
The behaviour and performance of the FLUDEX couplings are decisively influenced by the
amount of operating fluid filled in. As the filling quantity increases, the transmission capacity
of coupling, the engine load during start-up and the maximum overload torque of coupling in-
crease. The operating slip decreases at the same load.
FLUDEX couplings may be filled to a maximum of 80 to 85% of the total volume. Larger
filling quantities lead to a strong pressure increase in the coupling during operation. The
pressure increase can cause the coupling to burst.
If you have ordered the coupling with power specifications, the filling quantity is determined
by the factory. The filling quantity is stamped in litres on the coupling and listed on the title
page.
If you have ordered the coupling without power specifications, you can determine the filling
quantity using the tables in the technical data (see Chapter Filling quantity (Page73)). The
filling quantity for the coupling size is listed as a function of the speed and the power to be
transmitted.

Collect any operating fluid that has overflowed completely and dispose of the operating
fluid in accordance with the applicable regulations.
