2.3.2 Notes on Configuring RAID
Note the following limitations:
■ Hardware Configuration
RAID can be configured with hard disk units connected to the SCSI controller on the baseboard.
Make sure of following conditions.
• Only internal hard disk units can be used. Up to two hard disk units can be installed in the server.
More units than the maximum cannot be configured.
• Be sure to use hard disk units of the same model and with the same capacity.
■ Array Configuration
The server functions as the onboard SCSI array controller by configuring the array system with the
onboard SCSI controller. Configurable RAID level is only RAID1. The array system is configured by
two internal hard disks. For details, refer to "Onboard SCSI RAID User’s Guide".
■ Notes
• When a RAID-configured disk is used
Hard disk units that have been used before may have unwanted partition information or array
configuration information, which may cause unexpected problems. If you connect any hard disk units
with usage history to this server, format them at low level on another system before connecting them
to the server. For low-level formatting, refer to the manual supplied with the other system to be used.
When formatting hard disk units that have been used in this server at low level, refer to "8.2.7
Formatting Hard Disks Physically" (
pg.230).
• To remove disks
When configuring RAID in ServerStart, the array initialization utilizes the background initialization
function. Before removing the disk units, confirm that the initialization is complete using the RAID
Management Tool. For more details, refer to "Onboard SCSI RAID User’s Guide".
2.3.3 Notes on a Multiple LAN Adapter Configuration
Using the OS installation wizard of ServerStart, you can configure multiple LAN adapters (network
adapters) on the system. However, there are the following limitations.
● Adapter Numbers
To configure multiple LAN cards, select the adapter numbers in order of Adapter 1 and Adapter 2, and
enter settings for each adapter. Note that the order of adapter numbers is not necessarily the same as the
order of slots for the installed LAN adapters. This means that the setting for Adapter 1 is not always
applied to the onboard LAN. After installing the OS, check the LAN adapters to make sure that they are
configured as intended.
