Solving Audio Problems
Problem Possible Cause Solution
Computer beeps
once after you turn
it on.
This is normal; it
indicates successful
completion of the
Power-On Self-Test
(POST).
No action is required.
Computer does not
beep after the
Power-On Self-
Test (POST).
System beeps have
been turned down
Press
Fn+F5,
then press
the right arrow key to
increase the system
beeps volume.
Computer beeped
three times and
battery light is
blinking.
Battery charge is low
and computer has
entered a low-battery
condition.
Immediately save open
files and resolve the low-
battery condition (see
Chapter 5).
Computer beeped
three times when
exiting Suspend,
and the battery
light is blinking.
Hibernation has been
turned off, and the
computer is in a critical
low-battery condition.
Immediately resolve the
low-battery condition to
avoid losing unsaved data
(see Chapter 4 and
Chapter 5).
Computer does not
beep to indicate a
low-battery
condition.
Low-battery warning
beeps have been
disabled.
Enable low-battery warn-
ing beeps on the Battery
Conservation Settings tab
in Power Properties.
System beeps have
been turned down too
low.
Press

Audio playback is
too low or too loud.
The computer volume
control and/or the
software volume
control needs to be
adjusted.
Adjust the computer
volume control buttons

connected to the
computer, or the
computer is docked in
the optional

Use the external speakers
or headphones or the

headphones or undock
the computer.
