Solving Infrared Problems
Problem Possible Cause Solution
Cannot link with
another infrared-
equipped computer.
The infrared software
is not running on both
computers.
Run the infrared software
on both computers.
Interrupt request
(IRQ) conflict.
In Windows 95, check for
IRQ conflicts in System
Properties Device
Manager.
In Windows NT, run
Computer Setup. Select
Resolve Conflicts on the
Tools menu.
Baud rate conflict. Select the same baud
rate for both computers.
# bits conflict. Select the same # bits
setting for both
computers.
Stop byte conflict. Select the same stop
byte for both computers.
Parity conflict. Select the same parity
setting for both
computers.
Cannot transmit
data.
Target device is not
IrDA-compliant.
Refer to documentation
included with target
device.
Physical obstruction is
between devices.
Remove objects between
the devices that could
interfere with point-to-
point transmission.
Devices are too far
apart.
Verify that devices are no
more than 1.5 feet (0.5
meter) apart. (Some
target devices may
require a shorter
distance.)
Angle between
devices is too wide.
Adjust devices so that
they point within 30
degrees of each other.
(Some devices may
require more direct
alignment.)
