Running the Communications Program
A communications program has been preinstalled on the computer
for Windows 95 or for Windows NT. Online Help is available
within the program.
NOTE:
In Japan, if the computer does not have the preinstalled
communications program, contact your Compaq authorized
dealer, reseller, or service provider for information about a
communications program to use.
To run the preinstalled communications program:

In Windows 95, click Start

to the program Help to use the modem’s data/fax mode and
telephony features, including speakerphone, telephone
answering, and VoiceView.

Connecting the Modem to
a Telephone Wall Jack
Before connecting the modem, refer to the
Safety & Comfort
Guide
included with the computer and to Appendix B of this
guide for modem safety information.
To ensure safe and reliable operation, use only UL LISTED
modem cables.
NOTE:
The modem is equipped with Digital Line Guard, which
protects the modem if it is accidentally plugged into a digital PBX
system. If excessive current or voltage is detected,
DIGITAL LINE NO
DIALTONE
displays on the screen. If a digital line is no danger to the
modem, automatic timeout occurs and
NO DIALTONE
displays on the
screen.
