3-4 Using the Keyboard and Pointing Device

Embedded Numeric Keypad
The embedded numeric keypad is a section of the main keyboard
that converts to a numeric keypad when the num lock function is
enabled. Press
Fn+NumLk
to toggle the num lock function on and
off. The num lock light turns on to indicate when num lock is on.
When num lock is on, the blue numbers and symbols on top of the
keys within the embedded numeric keypad are active.
To type the black letters and symbols that are within the keypad
area when num lock is on, do the following:
For lowercase, press
Fn
and the letter.
For uppercase, press
Fn+Shift
and the letter.
Programmable Keys
The four programmable keys at the top left of the keyboard can be
programmed to quickly open frequently used documents or
programs or to emulate a Windows Logo key or Application Logo
key. The programmable keys are numbered one through four, left
to right.
By assigning the programmable keys to schemes, you can create
multiple sets of key assignments tailored for various tasks or for
more than one user.
Opening the Programmable Keys Dialog Box
To open the Programmable Keys dialog box:
In Windows 95, click Start
ÆSettingsÆControl PanelÆ
KeyboardÆProgrammable Keys.
In Windows NT, click StartÆSettingsÆControl
PanelÆProgrammable Keys.
NOTE:
Pressing an unassigned programmable key opens Keyboard
Properties in Windows 95 and the programmable keys dialog box
in Windows NT.
The option in the dialog box to Show Key Assignments in the
System Tray enables the programmable keys icon on the taskbar.
When this option is enabled, you can click the taskbar icon to
quickly view key assignments for the current scheme.
When Show Advanced Options is enabled, the Assign button
changes to a Browse button.
