Any other usage will invalidate the approval of the apparatus if, as
a result, it ceases to conform to the standards against which
approval was granted.
All apparatus connected to this modem and, thereby, connected
directly or indirectly to the British Telecom Public Switched
Telephone Network, must be approved apparatus as defined in
Section 16 of the British Telecommunications Act of 1981.
Although this equipment can use either loop disconnect or DTMF
signaling, only the performance of the DTMF signaling is subject
to regulatory requirements for correct operation. It is therefore
strongly recommended that the equipment be set to use DTMF
signaling for access to public or private emergency services.
DTMF signaling also provides faster call setup.
CAUTION:
The series 577 global modem may not be used on
extension wiring that makes use of plug pins 1 & 6. If in doubt,
advice must be obtained from a competent telecommunications
engineer.
Difficulties may occasionally be experienced from other apparatus
connected to the BT PSTN via the Compaq series 577 global
modem apparatus. Such difficulties may include the following:
■
Difficulty in making calls
■
Problems in telephone conversion being experienced by both
parties to the call
CAUTION:
Initially, normal operation will be possible. However,
changes to or modernization of the network may result in the
apparatus being connected to a network service with which it was
not designed to be compatible. Failure of the apparatus to work
under these circumstances may not be the responsibility of the
network operator.
