6.4. I-V MEASURING THE I-V CURVE
6.4.1. General information
The instrument allows measuring the I-V curve on PV modules/strings/fields (see § 11.1).
For this purpose, knowledge of the Irradiance value is mandatory. It is therefore
necessary to use the SOLAR03 remote unit in conjunction with the instrument.
Irradiance measurements are performed via one or more HT305 reference cells (in the
case of bifacial modules) connected to the SOLAR03 remote unit
The I-V600 instrument can acquire the module temperature value (also essential for
calculating values under @STC conditions) as follows:
"Meas.": temperature measured via the PT305 probe connected to SOLAR03
"Auto": temperature calculated by the instrument on the basis of the measured open
circuit voltage Voc and the nominal parameters of the module
In general, the instrument and the SOLAR03 unit can operate in the following modes:
Instrument used in direct Bluetooth connection with SOLAR03 remote unit without
recording of irradiance/temperature values
Instrument used in direct connection with the SOLAR03 remote unit with prior start of
synchronous recording of irradiance/temperature values. If the connection between
the instrument and the remote unit is critical (long distance or transmission through
walls/obstacles), the irradiance values (and temperature, if selected) will be transmitted
at the end of the session by bringing the two units closer together and stopping
recording
The Current/Voltage value pairs describing the I-V curve are initially acquired under OPC
conditions (Operative Conditions), i.e. under the actual conditions of the plant. Using the
irradiance/temperature values, the instrument then automatically converts these pairs to
STC conditions (Standard Test Condition - Irradiance = 1000W/m
2
, Module Temperature
= 25 °C, Spectral Distribution AM=1.5) for comparison with the nominal characteristics
declared by the module manufacturer (and stored in the instrument's internal database).
