6.5. IVCK – COMMISSIONING TEST ON PV MODULES AND STRINGS
6.5.1. General information
This function performs the following tests on a PV module/string by measuring only:
➢ Open circuit voltage Voc
➢ Short-circuit current Isc
of the PV string/module being tested in accordance with the requirements of IEC/EN62446.
The above quantities can be evaluated:
➢ Without Module’s Irradiance and Temperature measurements
➢ With Irradiance and Temperature measurement in connection with the SOLAR03
remote unit
For Voc and Isc measurements WITHOUT irradiance and temperature measurements,
the instrument displays only the values evaluated under @OPC (OPerative Conditions)
conditions, that is under the actual conditions of the plant, compares them with the
average values (rolling average of the last 10 measurements stored) and displays the
result for comparison of average values.
The measurement of Voc and Isc WITH Irradiance and Temperature is recommended
instead if Irradiance is unstable. In this case, the data measured under OPC conditions
are automatically "translated" by the instrument into @STC conditions (Standard Test
Condition - Irradiance = 1000W/m
2
, Module Temperature = 25 °C, Spectral Distribution
AM=1.5) to make a comparison with the characteristics declared by the module
manufacturer. The Irradiance and temperature values in the PV system being tested
are required to perform the above translation, and therefore the use of the SOLAR03
remote unit is necessary.
Irradiance measurements are performed via one or more HT305 reference cells (in the
case of bifacial modules) connected to the SOLAR03 remote unit. The I-V600 instrument
can acquire the temperature value (also essential for calculating values under @STC
conditions) as follows:
• "Meas." → Module temperature measured via PT305 probe connected to the
SOLAR03 unit
• "Auto" → Temperature calculated by the instrument based on the measured open
circuit voltage Voc and the nominal parameters of the module.
In general, the instrument and the SOLAR03 unit can operate in the following modes:
• Instrument used in direct Bluetooth connection with SOLAR03 remote unit without
recording of irradiance/temperature values
• Instrument used in direct connection with the SOLAR03 remote unit with prior start of
synchronous recording of irradiance/temperature values. If the connection between
the instrument and the remote unit is critical (long distance or transmission through
walls/obstacles), the irradiance values (and temperature, if selected) will be transmitted
at the end of the session by bringing the two units closer together and stopping
recording
• The open circuit voltage - short-circuit current value pair is initially acquired under OPC
(OPerative Condition) conditions, that is under the actual condition of the plant. Using
the irradiance/temperature values, the instrument then automatically converts the
before mentioned pair to STC conditions (Standard Test Condition - Irradiance =
1000W/m
2
, Module Temperature = 25 °C, Spectral Distribution AM=1.5) for comparison
with the nominal characteristics declared by the module manufacturer (and stored in
the instrument's internal database).
