4.7 Description of function
The vertical continuous casting plant can be used to produce wires,
sheets and tubes of different dimensions from precious metals, alu-
minum alloys or other suitable metals. For this purpose, the molten
material is first melted inductively by means of a protective gas at-
mosphere and then drawn by means of a drawing device through a
die.
During the drawing process, the strand is drawn, stopped and, if nec-
essary, pushed back. By means of this type of solidification process,
the material can be formed / drawn without porosity.
The particular advantage of the inductive heating is the rapid attain-
ment of the melting temperature, since the heat is generated directly
in the alloy and in the crucible. Likewise, the metal is thoroughly
mixed through the magnetic field during the melting process, so that
homogeneous metal mixing is achieved even in new alloys.
Because of the pouring through the crucible bottom, only pure metal
is drawn through the die or poured into the granulating tank while im-
purities which float on the surface can only cover the casting end.
The built-in thermocouples measure the temperature precisely and
control the power of the device so that the set temperature is kept
constant.
By means of the pyrometer installed in the back of the die cooler, the
die cooler temperature is measured and controlled.
The continuous casting plant can optionally be equipped with a bend-
ing unit. With this device, a wire / band can be made longer.
Optionally, the continuous casting plant can be equipped with a gran-
ulation tank. The granulation tank is suspended under the inductor
and filled with water. The molten metal drips from the crucible trough
into the tank and solidifies into granules.
