4.3 Generator
Problem Possible Cause Corrective Action
No AC output
Circuit breaker in the OFF position Reset the breaker to the ON position
Circuit breaker tripped due to overload on the
generator set
Reduce the load. See Wattage Requirements.
Reset the breaker to the ON position.
Ship-to-shore transfer switch in OFF or SHORE
position
Turn the switch to generator power
Controller fuse blown Replace the fuse
Generator malfunction such as sticking
brushes, broken brush leads, inoperative rotor,
or other internal fault
See an authorized Kohler service
distributor/dealer
Low output or
Engine speed too low Adjust the governor
excessive drop in
Generator overloaded Reduce the load. See Wattage Requirements.
voltage
Engine in poor condition If routine services are performed and condition
persists, see an authorized Kohler
distributor/dealer
Faulty voltage regulator See an authorized Kohler service distributor/dealer
High generator output
voltage
Inoperative voltage regulator and/or poor wiring
connections
See an authorized Kohler service distributor/dealer
Excessive speed or frequency Adjust the governor. Check the governor
linkage and spring for damage or binding.
Will not crank
No DC power to the controller Check the battery connections
Controller circuit fuse blown Replace the fuse and attempt startup. If fuse
blows again, contact an authorized Kohler
service distributor/dealer.
