Laser 128 - The Ctrl Key

THE KEYBOARD
The hollow -tri angle " h. " and solid-triang le
" .&. " keys are spec ial purposed keys w hich
correspo nd to the open -a pple and closed-
apple keys on App le ® Ile /Ile computers. The
co mputer can tell whether they are pressed
or not, independent of the st atus of the other
keys on the keyboard. The use of these keys
differs from program to program.
4.4 The "CTRL" key
The func ti on of th e "CTRL" key is simila r to
that of the "SHIFT" keys. If you hold down
the "CTRL" key while pressing another key,
a special control-charact er will be gen erated.
These control - characters can n ot be displayed
on the screen. Instead, they are recogniz ed
by some appli c ation programs as specia l
comma nd s.
Many of the special keys discussed before
generate control - characters. Fo r examp le,
pressing the "I" key while holdin g dow n the
"CTRL" key is equivalent to pre ss ing the
"TAB" key alone . For yo ur reference, Table
4-1 is a li st of all the special keys which
generate co nt rol-cha ra cters.
