THE
VIDEO DISPLAY
The
left-half
of
the
original
SO-column
display
is
copied
to
the
40-column
display.
The
BASIC
prompt
character

and
the
flashing
checker-board
cursor
will
be
displayed
on
the
next
line
as usual.
SO-column
text
SO-column
text
is
especially
suitable
for
word-processing
applications
.
since
the
document
is
displayed
on
the
screen
in
the
same
way
they
will
be
printed
on
paper
so
·
that
you
can
edit
the
format
of
the
print-out
on
the
screen
easily.
To
switch
from
40-
column
mode
to
SO-column mode,
type
the
following
BASIC
statement:
]PR#3<CR>
The
entire
screen
will
be
cleared
leaving
the
BASIC
prompt
")"
and
the
cursor
on
the
top-
most
row
of
the
screen.
Note
that
the
cursor
becomes a
non-flashing
white
block
to
inform
you
that
you
have
activated
the
built-in
SO-column
firmware.
Also,
the
width
of
the
characters
is
reduced
to
one-half
of
that
in
40-column
text
mode.
If
for
some
reasons
SO-column
text
is
undesirable,
e.g. a
low-resolution
TV
is
being
used
as
the
video
display
device,
you
can
inhibit
this
feature
by
throwing
the
"40/
SO
COLUMN"
switch
located
above
the
keyboard
to
the
"40"
position.
If
the
switch
is
thrown
to
the
"SO"
position,
both
40-column
and
SO-column
text
can
be
displayed.
