updatingtheBIOS.Inthiscase,youcankeepyourpreviousBIOSsettingsanddonotneedtoreconfigure
thesettingsafterupdatingtheBIOS.YoualsocanrecordyourspecificBIOSsettingsbeforeupdatingthe
BIOSforaneasierreconfigurationinthenewBIOSversion.
Toupdate(flash)theBIOS,dothefollowing:
1.Gotohttp://www.lenovo.com/driversandfollowtheinstructionsontheWebpagetolocatetheBIOS
updatepackage.
2.DownloadtheBIOSupdatepackageandtheTXTfilethatcontainsinstallationinstructions.
3.PrinttheTXTfileandfollowtheinstructionstoupdate(flash)theBIOS.
4.CheckandreconfiguretheBIOSsettingsforyourspecificneedsbasedonyournoteorreferto“Using
theSetupUtilityprogram”onpage61
aftertheBIOSupdateprocessiscompleted.
RecoveringfromaBIOSupdatefailure
IfthepowertoyourserverisinterruptedwhiletheBIOSisbeingupdated,yourservermightnotrestart
correctly.Ifthishappens,performthefollowingproceduretorecoverfromtheBIOSupdatefailure.
Note:IftheoperatingsystemofyourserverisinstalledunderEFImode,youneedtoreinstalltheoperating
systemafterrecoveringtheBIOS.
TorecoverfromaBIOSupdatefailure,dothefollowing:
1.Gotohttp://www.lenovo.com/driversandfollowtheinstructionsontheWebpagetodownloadaBIOS
updatepackage.Then,puttheamiboot.romfilecontainedinthepackageintotherootdirectoryof
abootableUSBkey.
2.Removeallmediafromthedrivesandturnoffallattacheddevicesandtheserver.Then,disconnectall
powercordsfromelectricaloutletsanddisconnectallcablesthatareconnectedtotheserver.
3.Removetheservercover.See“Removingtheservercover”onpage85.
4.LocatetheBIOSrecoveryswitchonthesystemboard.See“Systemboardjumpersandswitches”on
page52.Then,removeanypartsanddisconnectanycablesthatmightimpedeyouraccesstothe
switch.
5.MovetheBIOSrecoveryswitchfromthedefaultoffpositiontotheonposition.
6.Reinstallanypartsandreconnectanycables.Then,reinstalltheservercover.See“Completingthe
partsreplacement”onpage200
.
7.Connecttheservertoanacpowersource,andthenstarttheserverfromthebootableUSBkeythat
containstheamiboot.romfile.Therecoveryprocessstarts.Aftertherecoveryprocessiscompleted,
yourserverwillautomaticallyturnoff.
8.Repeatstep2throughstep4.
9.MovetheBIOSrecoveryswitchbacktotheoffposition.
10.Repeatstep6.
11.Connecttheservertoanacpowersourceandturnontheserver.TheBIOSsettingsrecovertothe
factorydefaultsettings.YouneedtocheckandconfiguretheBIOSsettingsforyourspecificneeds.See
“UsingtheSetupUtilityprogram”onpage61.
