Step 1. Disconnect the fan cable from the system board.
Step 2. Press the fan cage bracket to the front of the server, grasp the top of the fan, and lift the fan out of
the server.
If you are instructed to return the old system fan, follow all packaging instructions and use any packaging
materials that are provided.

Before installing a system fan:
1. Remove the air baffle. See “Remove the air baffle” on page 60.
2. Touch the static-protective package that contains the new system fan to any unpainted surface on the
outside of the server. Then, take the new system fan out of the package and place it on a static-
protective surface.
