Note:Whenyoudisconnectthepowersourcefromtheserver,youlosetheabilitytoviewtheLEDsbecause
theLEDsarenotlitwhenthepowersourceisremoved.Beforeyoudisconnectthepowersource,make
anoteofwhichLEDsarelit,includingtheLEDsthatarelitontheoperationinformationpanelandLEDs
insidetheserveronthesystemboard.
Manyerrorsarefirstindicatedbythelitsystem-errorLEDontheoperatorinformationpaneloftheserver.If
thisLEDislit,oneormoreLEDselsewhereintheservermightalsobelitandcandirectyoutothesource
oftheerror.
BeforeyouworkinsidetheservertoviewtheLEDs,readthe“Safety”onpagev
and“Handling
static-sensitivedevices”onpage88.
Ifanerroroccursoryoususpectasystemerror,dothefollowing:
1.Checktheoperatorinformationpanelonthefrontoftheserver.Ifthesystem-errorLEDislit,itconfirms
thatanerrorhasoccurred.
2.ChecktheIMM2eventlogandthesystem-errorlogforinformationabouttheerror.
3.Lookatthesystemservicelabelinsidethecoveroftheserver,whichgivesanoverviewofinternal
components.Thislabelalsousuallyincludeshelpfulinstructionstohelpyoucorrecttheerror.

ThefollowingtabledescribestheLEDsonthesystemboardandsuggestedactionstocorrectthedetected
problems:
•IMM2heartbeatLED:Whentheserverisconnectedtopower,thisLEDflashesquicklytoindicatethatthe
IMM2codeisloading.Whentheloadingiscompleted,theLEDstopsflashingquicklyandthenflashes
slowly,whichmeansthattheIMM2iffullyoperationalandyoucanpressthepower-controlbuttonto
starttheserver.
IftheLEDdoesnotbeginflashingwithin30secondsaftertheserverisconnectedtopower,dothe
following:
1.(Trainedtechnicianonly)Recoverthefirmware.See“Recoveringtheserverfirmware(UEFIupdate
failure)”onpage74.
2.(Trainedtechnicianonly)Replacethesystemboard.
•System-errorLED:WhentheLEDislit,itindicatesthatthemicroprocessorVRDand/orpowervoltage
regulatorshavefailed.Then,youneedtoasktrainedtechniciantoreplacethesystemboard.
•CPLDheartbeatLED:IftheLEDflashesat1Hz,itisfunctioningproperlyandnoactionisnecessary.If
theLEDisnotflashing,replacethesystemboard(Trainedtechnicianonly).
