Automatedbootrecovery(ABR)
Whiletheserverisstarting,iftheintegratedmanagementmoduleIIdetectsproblemswiththeserver
firmwareintheprimarybank,theserverautomaticallyswitchestothebackupfirmwarebankandgives
youtheopportunitytorecoverthefirmwareintheprimarybank.ForinstructionsforrecoveringtheUEFI
firmware,see“Recoveringtheserverfirmware(UEFIupdatefailure)”onpage74
.Afteryouhaverecovered
thefirmwareintheprimarybank,dothefollowing:
Step1.Restarttheserver.
Step2.WhenthepromptPressF3torestoretoprimaryisdisplayed,pressF3tostarttheserverfrom
theprimarybank.
Nx-bootfailure
Configurationchanges,suchasaddeddevicesoradapterfirmwareupdates,andfirmwareorapplication
codeproblemscancausetheservertofailPOST(thepower-onself-test).Ifthisoccurs,theserverresponds
ineitherofthefollowingways:
TheserverrestartsautomaticallyandattemptsPOSTagain.
Theserverhangs,andyoumustmanuallyrestarttheserverfortheservertoattemptPOSTagain.
Afteraspecifiednumberofconsecutiveattempts(automaticormanual),theNx-bootfailurefeaturecauses
theservertoreverttothedefaultUEFIconfigurationandstarttheSetupUtilitysothatyoucanmakethe
necessarycorrectionstotheconfigurationandrestarttheserver.IftheserverisunabletocompletePOST
withthedefaultconfigurationsuccessfully,theremightbeaproblemwiththesystemboard.
YoucansetthenumberofconsecutiverestartattemptsthatwilltriggertheNx-bootfailurefeature,in
theSetupUtility.Tospecifythenumber,clickSystemSettingsRecoveryPOSTAttempts
POSTAttemptsLimit.Then,choosetheitemfromthefollowingavailableoptions:3,6,9,andDisable
Nx-bootfailure.
